In 1986, when I returned to Gramscian studies and began to collect titles of the more recent publications in the field, I was surprised to learn that no one had attempted to organize the large number of writings on Gramsci in over two dozen languages that had been published since the late 1970s. The splendid work begun by Elsa Fubini and last published in 1977 had not been continued. In New York City a small group of Gramscian devotees had undertaken the collection of material
